SANTO ECCE HOMO CONVENT
Santo Ecce-Homo Monastery in the outskirts of Villa de Leyva is a colonial building facing a green valley, known as the “universal monument to silence”. The convent was founded in 1620, its construction began by 1650 and took 45 years to complete. 33 monolithic columns hold the building and its wide arches and galleries. Its architecture mixes mudéjar, romanic, gothic and renaissance styles.
IGUAQUE WILDLIFE RESERVATION
Iguaque wildlife reservation surrounds the Holy Lake of Iguaque. According to Muisca mythology, this is the birthplace of humanity. Bachué, mother of the Muisca People, emerged from this lake and for this reason it is deemed a holy place where your soul will be cleansed. There are seven glacial-origin lakes in the reservation. It sits high between 2,400 and 3,800 metres above sea level.
This is a vital spot for the local ecosystem and community, as it is its main water source.
